My name is Edwin. I’m a filmmaker and web developer working in Perth, Western Australia. I’ve also taught film and web subjects at Universities since 1995. I’m 42 years old.
On October 13th 2007, I lost my Father to oesophageal cancer. After a week of mysterious and sudden weight-loss (February 2007) he suddenly couldn’t swallow. X-rays revealed an obstruction and subsequent tests confirmed the worst. A cancerous tumor had taken hold. It had been growing unchecked for 5 years – a result of life-long heartburn and indigestion. After a horrible operation (his oesophagus was removed) and 9 months in and out of Fremantle Hospital, Dad died – his body riddled with cancer and pain-killing hallucinogens.
During his last few days, he made no sense. But he told us he loved us. Mum, my sister Sue and I held his hand as warmth, prescience and oxygen left his body.
